We are always trying to keep our equipment new and updated. Every time a new piece of equipment is added to our group it will be added to this list!
The equipment is broken down into categories of "Non-Paranormal Equipment", "Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Detectors", "Audio Equipment", "Visual Equipment", and "Paranormal / Non-Paranormal Detection".
Each piece of equipment is listed with a brief description of each piece and its functional use during investigation.
Non-Paranormal Equipment
Walkie-Talkies: Communication is key during an investigation. It is a must to have all your investigators one click away to get in touch with them.
Flashlights: Probably one of the most essential pieces of equipment. Investigating in dark unfamiliar places, safety is an issue. The flashlights help guide us to where we want to go.
Noise-Cancelling Headphones: These are great, but not necessary for review on our EVP's and other footage that has sound. Noise Cancelling Headphones allows us to block out exterior noise and solely focus on the audio at hand during evidence review.
Laptop Computers: We use a few different laptops to review out EVP's, Video Footage, Extensive Research, sometimes even used as surveillance equipment when we hook up video cameras and record to the hard-drive.
Wavepad Sound Editor: A great piece of software that allows us to listen to our recordings. We are then able to cut out the sections of our recordings and save them as our own digital files. Wavepad shows us the wavelengths of noise created during the investigation, and whenever a noise happens the screen will show a green spike. Also has great features to help sometimes clean up the EVP's if there is too much background noise or other things going on. Using some of the clean up features truly helps make the EVP more audible.
Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Meters/Detectors
Many investigators believe the presence of an EMF spike detected on one of their meters is a sign of the paranormal, that would be false.
A little bit about EMFs: The earth gives off its own bit of Electromagnetic Field, but usually when investigating in a man made structure our surrounded by man made structures there is always going to EMFs emitted. Sometimes these EMFs will be high, sometimes the meters will pick up a very low read. A spike in the EMF meter can be caused by cellular interference (this is why all cell phones must be turned off during the investigation!), the fridge going through a new cycle, the air conditioner or heat turning on, or as simple as turn a light on and off in a room. Exposure to high EMFs on a constant basis will bring side-effects such as: nausea, skin irritation, vomiting, the feeling of being watched, and giving you "the chills". Our EMF detectors are here to detect the presence of EMF given off, most of the time. There are many times when there are high spikes that are unexplainable. We sometimes use two of our meters as communication devices. Please read the breakdown to learn more about each different meter.
We carry four different types of EMF Meters with us, here is the breakdown of them all.
Digital EMF Meter: This is the meter that we most use to detect EMFs given off my the house or surrounding area. As explained earlier, high EMFs can give off side effects. Finding high EMFs can solve a lot of our claims right away, after finding the high EMFs we always tell the client what needs to be done to fix the problem. This meter has a big digital display in numbers which gives a very accurate reading.
ELF Zone Meter: This is used the same way as the digital meter. The difference between this and the digital display is the ELF Zone has three display lights for Normal, Mediate, and Danger EMF levels.
Ghost Meter: Used to detect EMFs as well, but this flashes a bright orange light and beeps. As the EMF or other energy gets stronger the flash gets faster and beeps quicker. This is one of the meters that can be used to communicate. Asking Yes and No questions the theory is you can have the spirit or entity to manipulate the flashing of the lights.
K-II Meter: The Famed K-II Meter, it is the same basis as the Ghost Meter but has a display of different colored lights. Another meter that is attempted to use to communicate. Asking Yes and No questions the theory is you can have the spirit or entity to manipulate the flashing of the lights.
Paranormal Audio Equipment
Digital Voice Recorders: We use a variety of different digital recorders. Digital recorders are great for making notes during an investigation. Also we use them as a communication device during the investigation. This is what most of our EVP's (Electronic Voice Phenomena) is caught on. EVP's are disembodied voices, moans, coughs, or sounds that are usually not heard at the time of the investigation. These voices, sounds, etc are found during evidence review. To hear our fine selection of EVP's click on the links on the menu to the left titled "B.A.P.S. EVP's".
Tape Voice Recorder: This has the same concept as the digital voice recorders, only we use tape instead of digital memory.
Ghost Box (Frank's Box): A radio that has been modified to be on a continuous scan throughout different AM or FM stations. The scan will not stop on any radio station. Theory behind this piece of equipment is that the continual scan of the radio creates and environment for the spirits or entities in the area to communicate easier. The continual scan creates almost a white noise, which is said by many investigators to give spirits energy to be able the speak or do other things. The Ghost Box is truly new to us and is a very controversial and experimental piece of equipment.
Paranormal Visual Equipment
Handheld Video Camera: Video Footage is the hardest type of evidence to get, this is why it is so valued amongst the paranormal investigating world. We carry a few different types of handheld video cameras with us to create a point of view look during the investigation, in hopes to document any occurrence of paranormal phenomena. We prefer to use infrared (night vision) illumination. This is because we can work in total darkness, because the infrared light is invisible to the naked human eye, but is picked up by our cameras. To view videos of paranormal evidence we caught visit out "B.A.P.S. Video Evidence" link to the left of your screen.
Wireless Infrared Stationary Camera: As of right now we use two wireless infrared cameras. These cameras are great to set up on a tripod and let them run throughout the night if there are claims of a lot of activity in one room. We hook these up to the hard-drives of our computers so we do not have to use tape. Also, with these cameras set up to the laptops it makes a great viewing screen for the investigators not investigating at the time.
Digital Camera: Still photography has brought some of the best paranormal evidence around. When there is a recognizable change in the environment around use we will take a lot of pictures to try and see if we cannot document anything. We also take pictures in all the rooms we investigate. We have some pictures posted under "B.A.P.S. Photo Evidence". Please also read our section about "The Orb Controversy" to understand that all the little circles you see in your picture probably are not spirits or any kind of paranormal activity.
Paranormal / Non Paranormal Detection Equipment
Non Contact Infrared Laser Thermometer: The is a great piece of equipment that is used to detect drafts and fluctuations in temperature in a room. Fluctuation in temperatures do not always mean there is a paranormal presence. This thermometer allows us to point and shoot all over the room to try and detect fluctuations and then proceed to usually find the cause of it.
