Binghamton Area Paranormal Society (B.A.P.S.) - The Premiere Binghamton Ghost Hunters

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions asked to the BAPS team.

Q: Is BAPS looking for new team members?

A: "As of now, the answer is no, if there is an opening it will be posted on the website stating that we are looking for new people to join our team"

Q: Is there a fee for when I ask BAPS to come investigate?

A: "No, there is no fee whatsoever. All of our services are free. Donations never hurt the cause but are never forced upon. Any money received during the investigations and other activities goes towards BAPS equipment and travel fees."

Q: How do we know that the BAPS evidence isn't tainted?

A:"There will always be skeptics no matter what kind of evidence is brought about. The skeptics will state that all evidence of paranormal activity is a joke or tainted. BAPS stands by all captured evidence from pictures, EVPs, videos,...etc. All evidence is untainted, untouched, and 100% real. If people choose to believe otherwise then that is their choice, but as we said all evidence captured is untainted"

Q: What do I have to do to get in contact with BAPS?

A: "It's is simple, just send an e-mail to binghamtonareaparanormalsociety@yahoo.com stating your comment, question, or concern."

Q: Is there some way that we can learn how to ghost hunt?

A: "Anybody can be a paranormal researcher, but this isn't just something that you jump right into. It takes a lot of time to research and learn the ways to conduct yourself when certain situations arrive. BAPS does offer some lessons in the field of investigating using different pieces of equipment but taking these lessons does not mean you are ready to wonder off by yourself to an isolated location trying to get the spirits to come and get you."

Q: Does BAPS use Ouija Boards?

A: "Absolutely not!  The theory behind Ouija Boards is that they are a portal to the other side. Which you may think that if we are looking for ghosts then why not use to bring them to us. Well our problem is we are trying to find what is already there, and not add to their problem. Also another theory with the Ouija Board is that the spirits that are attracted to the Ouija Board are negative spirits. And we try to avoid bringing spirits like that to us. Not saying we do not deal with negative spirits its just that we do not want to bring them to us if it is not necessary."

Q: If I am going to have BAPS investigate, how will the night be handled. In other words what is the timeline of the night?

A: "BAPS usually likes to arrive about 7:00 pm or so on the day of the investigation. We then will talk with the owners, get to know them, and then go on our tour of the property. The tour is a great opportunity for the owners to share their personal experiences with our team and show us the places where most activity occurs. Usually two or three BAPS investigators will come on the tour, take notes and ask questions so we can better understand what is going on and how to set up our equipment.  Then after the tour, our entire team will meet up somewhere and discuss what we think of the claims, how we are going to go about setting up equipment and what tactics may work best for the situation. We will then go in and set up the equipment around the house. Once that is complete it is usually "lights out" and the investigation is going to start. The duration of the investigation is based upon activity and the size of the property. When complete, the BAPS team will then notify the owners and start clean up. We will talk down all the equipment we brought leaving your place as clean as it was once we first got there."

Q: How long does it take from the time of the investigation until the time I will see what evidence is caught?

A: "Understand that we only have a few people that review evidence. If we are investigating for example, four hours, and we have 4 cameras running, with 4 recorders, that is close to 32 hours of footage we have to cover. We try to get it covered as quick as possible. We can usually say we will get everything looked at in the first few days after. Then we have to share the evidence with one another to see if someone else cannot disprove the paranromal activity caught. After that we cut the evidence into segments of what actually was caught. This makes it easier to show during our evidence reveal. Instead of fast forwarding through tapes, we can just open up a small file with the evidence caught. This will take another day or so. We try to get everything ready to be presented in less than 5 business days"
